Ian's Christmas Program

Ian had his first Christmas program at church this year. It was on a Thursday to coincide with his Thursday school. The kids had practiced for weeks, even using a CD at home that the music teacher had provided so the kids could learn the songs (Ian loved this at first yet screamed, "NO!" when I would put the CD in over the last week). This first video is when the kids first entered the room. Each age group went on their own into the classroom and sang in a very relaxed atmosphere...they could come sit with parents, etc. Watch Ian throughout the video.
This next video includes a little drum playing on Ian's part. Notice Abby is now in the program...unplanned of course.
This next one is about the little baby in a manger. Notice that while the other kids have babies...Ian has a purple turtle. I missed that one in the Christmas story! The teacher explained later that some of the kids had an "aversion to the babies" which is why some were holding animals. Great...Ian doesn't like babies???
Falling Snowflakes
So, as you can tell, Ian is not very enthusiastic about the stage. He did, however, enjoy the cookie/cake reception afterward as you can see in the pictures at the top. Ian is with his best friend, Annabelle.

Daddy Daughter Dance

Our church hosted its first Daddy Daughter Dance this past Friday. Emma and Abby were both to go with Derreck, however, Emma and myself had succumbed to the stomach flu so Emma was unable to attend.
Abby got home from school and spent an hour upstairs preparing the perfect outfit. I crawled upstairs to help after much pleading from Derreck. Abby and I had to put together kind of a hodge podge outfit since I had obviously dropped the ball and failed to buy an appropriate dress (I must remember for next year).

As you can tell from the pictures, she was not a happy camper. We, meaning women, have all felt this way before; if you don't LOVE what you have on you can feel miserable.
The duo departed and I called Abby about 10 minutes after she had left. After a lenghty discussion that she could ditch the sweater if she felt uncomfortable when she got to the dance, she perked up.
Derreck said the evening was wonderful. They arrived to be handed a small bag contain a silver chain link bracelet for Abby with a round silver charm on it. The charm was engraved with "Daddy Daughter Dance 09!" Perfect Keepsake!
They dined on spaghetti, bread, salad and a non stop chocolate fountain! Emma was so disappointed she had missed the fountain. She said she would have sat by it with a cup and just refilled her cup with chocolate all night long. I had to explain to her that this wasn't how it worked.
After dinner, the men knelt down to their daughters, looked them in the eye and said this:
I give to you my child
My right hand and promise
I want to be the Father
That God wants me to be.

I will strive to love you
The way that God loves you.
And although at times
I may fail, please know in your heart

That God loves you
because you are His
And I love you
because you are mine.

The daughters responded with this:
I give to you my father
My right hand and promise
I want to be the child
That God wants me to be.

I will strive to
Honor you
Respect you
And learn to do what is right
From your example.

I love you
Not only
Because you are my father
But because
You are my friend.

Oh how I wish I could have been there for that!

The evening was then topped off with dancing. I had to call Derreck around 9:15 to ask him to pick up some Delsym for Ian on the way home and I could hear Eye of the Tiger blaring in the background.
It was a wonderful time and I am so thankful for all the people who made it such a special evening for the girls and their dads! What a great way to strengthen their relationship so when the big things come along the girls will have a safe place to run and a Dad to talk to!
